These tips may help you avoid falls from occasional dizziness associated with high blood pressure medication.


  • When rising from a seated position, move slowly to avoid a drop in blood pressure that might cause dizziness;
  • When getting out of bed, dangle your legs briefly before standing up;
  • Address vision problems that might lead to falls, and use adequate lighting;
  • Eliminate fall hazards in your home such as small floor rugs;
  • Wear supportive non-slip foot wear;
  • Add balance exercises to your workouts, along with stretching for joint flexibility, to improve your reaction to near falls;
  • Consider using a supportive staple such as a cane or walker to further stabilize you;
  • Manage side effects from high blood pressure medications
  • Avoid medications or supplements that are linked to increases in blood pressure such as decongestant medications like Sudafed, ginkgo and ginseng
